The Food and Drug Administration this week authorized several SARS-CoV-2 serial screening tests for asymptomatic individuals. They include two over-the-counter tests for use at home; one over-the-counter test for use at home with a telehealth proctor; one over-the-counter test for point-of-care settings; and one prescription test for point-of-care settings.

FDA previously authorized the tests for individuals with COVID-19 symptoms.

“The addition of the OTC and POC tests for screening will give schools, workplaces, communities and others several options for serial screening tests that are accurate and reliable,” FDA said.
