The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Nov. 1 approved Georgia’s waiver allowing the state to forgo a government-run website to help individuals enroll in coverage, instead relying on private brokers and insurers. This makes Georgia the first state without a government-run website to direct consumers. Currently, 36 states use the federal healthcare.gov website to enroll consumers in health care coverage plans; the other 14 administer their own websites.

In addition, Georgia’s waiver allows the state to implement a reinsurance program starting in plan year 2022.
